Medical Assistant Schedule: Part-Time Setting: In-Person, Patient-Facing Training: 3-4 weeks of required training/orientation Medical Assistant Position Overview
We are seeking a Certified Medical Assistant (CMA/MA) to join a fast-paced outpatient healthcare team. The Medical Assistant will support providers and patients throughout the visit, assist with clinical procedures, collect vital signs and specimens, provide vaccination support, maintain accurate medical records, and help ensure an efficient and positive patient experience. The ideal candidate is organized, patient-focused, comfortable multitasking, and able to work effectively in both the clinical and administrative areas of an outpatient setting.
Medical Assistant Schedule & Training Part-time position Training/orientation is required for approximately 3-4 weeks. Regular schedules are created in 6-week blocks following training. Typical schedule consists of 2-3 weekdays plus every other weekend. Shifts may range from approximately 7-10 hours, depending on operational needs. Must be available to work some major holidays. Must be available for the full initial training period.
Medical Assistant Key Responsibilities
- Greet patients warmly and professionally and provide a positive first impression
- Assist providers by rooming patients and collecting medical histories
- Obtain and accurately document vital signs
- Collect specimens and perform simple clinical tests
- Prepare and assist with vaccination services and provide patient education
- Perform point-of-care (POC) testing and maintain required controls
- Maintain patient privacy and comply with HIPAA requirements when handling protected health information (PHI)
- Enter and update patient information in electronic medical records and registration systems
- Answer phones, take messages, and provide information as appropriate
- Assist patients with questions regarding insurance, copayments, billing, and service charges
- Maintain adequate clinical and office supplies
- Keep clinical and patient areas clean, organized, and properly stocked
- Communicate workflow issues and recommendations to providers
- Support efficient patient flow and overall clinic operations
- Participate in community outreach and engagement initiatives as needed
Medical Assistant Required Qualifications
- Graduate of an accredited Medical Assistant program
- Current Medical Assistant certification required
- Current BLS certification required
- High school diploma or GED
- Approximately 1 year of Medical Assistant experience preferred
- Ability to confidently prepare and assist with vaccination services and educate patients
- Ability to accurately obtain patient history, vital signs, and specimens
- Experience entering information into electronic medical records
- Familiarity with health insurance terminology and common plan types
- Strong organizational and time-management skills
- Excellent communication and customer service skills
- Ability to multitask in a busy healthcare environment
- Ability to continuously move throughout the clinical environment during the workday
- Ability to lift up to 35 lbs.
- Ability to read instructions and medical information and accurately enter information into computer systems
Medical Assistant Preferred Experience
- Experience in Primary Care, Urgent Care, or Emergency Room settings
- Experience with Epic EMR or another electronic medical record system
- Experience with vaccinations and point-of-care testing
- Experience working in a fast-paced outpatient healthcare environment
