Job summary

American Family Care in Worcester, MA is seeking Medical Assistants to blend clinical care, patient service, and front-desk/insurance verification. You will greet patients, triage, collect vitals, draw blood, perform CLIA-waived tests, and ensure eligibility and billing accuracy.

You will educate patients on procedures and costs, participate in daily huddles, maintain HIPAA compliance, and support EMR accuracy. Evening/weekend availability is required.

Qualifications

• Completion of an accredited Medical Assistant program.
• Active national MA certification (CMA, RMA, CCMA, or equivalent) at hire.
• At least 1+ year of experience with insurance verification and patient registration.
• Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification (or ability to obtain before starting).
• Urgent care or emergency room experience highly valued.
• EMR proficiency (Experity preferred); comfort with payer portals (e.g., Waystar).
• Proven venipuncture and specimen collection skills.
• Must pass drug screen and criminal background check.
• Full availability including ability to work evenings/weekends and float to nearby centers as needed.

Responsibilities

• Clinical Care: Greet and triage patients, collect vitals/histories, venipuncture, CLIA-waived testing, minor procedures, wound care, EKGs, nebulizer therapy.
• Insurance Verification & Front Desk: Register patients, verify insurance eligibility, determine financial responsibility, collect co-pays, reconcile logs, maintain EMR accuracy.
• Patient Service: Educate patients on procedures and financial expectations, provide discharge instructions, de-escalate concerns with empathy.
• Team & Compliance: Participate in daily huddles, maintain compliance logs, support infection-control and HIPAA standards.
