Job summary

Eagle Mountain City is seeking a general-purpose, working-level arborist/forestry worker to support care, pruning, planting and study of city-owned trees and shrubs. The role involves inspections, equipment operation, and public education about forestry programs.

You will assist with routine maintenance, inventory, and planning for long-range urban forestry goals, while ensuring safety and proper use of tools and chemicals as needed.

Qualifications

• One to Two (1-2) years experience in forestry, botany, arboriculture, horticulture, forestry, silviculture, ecology or related field.
• High School Diploma.
• Considerable knowledge of maintenance equipment and safety precautions related to equipment operations.
• Ability to apply chemicals for abatement of weeds and insects; physically capable of lifting 35–100+ pounds.
• Pruning and removal of trees including technical rigging, aerial bucket operation, and climbing with rope and saddle.
• Special Qualifications: Certified Arborist within one year of hire; Certified Weed and Pest Control Applicator within one year of hire.
• Must possess a valid Utah Driver's License; may require CDL.
• Work environment requires physical activity and exposure to weather; occasional local travel; drug and alcohol testing.

Responsibilities

• Coordinate inspection of trees for removal or pruning; schedule inspections and perform routine maintenance.
• Operate small and light equipment such as chain saws, pruning equipment, backhoes, loaders, trenchers, and hand tools.
• Provide public relations support; educate the public about forestry programs; plan Arbor Day activities; give presentations to civic groups.
• Assist the public in complying with city ordinances and advise on tree selection and care.
• Maintain inventory of city trees and related records; supervise volunteer crews for data collection; assist with computerized records.
• Coordinate long-range planning for the urban forestry program; plan future planting, pruning and removal goals.
• Design and coordinate planting and care of landscaped areas; apply horticultural methods and manage pests.
