Job summary

Holyoke Public Schools is seeking a part-time substitute teacher to support classroom instruction and behavior management. You will arrive early, review materials, and implement lesson plans provided by the absent teacher to maintain instructional momentum.

Responsibilities include maintaining safety, discipline, and a positive learning environment, reporting incidents promptly, coordinating with staff, and completing end-of-day reports.

Qualifications

• Must be willing to work 5 days per week.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills; excellent teamwork skills.
• Commitment to ensuring academic success for all students.
• Experience working in an Urban Setting.
• Preferred experience working with diverse student populations.
• Preferred ability to read, interpret, and apply student performance data to instructional planning and execution.

Responsibilities

• Be flexible to meet the school administration's needs and adapt to classrooms.
• Arrive 20 minutes early to review materials and prepare before students arrive.
• Report to the main office upon arrival at school.
• Create and enforce structured discipline and classroom control.
• Establish a safe and positive environment for all students and staff.
• Oversee student behavior to ensure health, welfare and safety.
• Protect students, equipment, materials and facilities.
• Report incidents to the appropriate authority immediately.
• Implement lesson plans left by the absent teacher.
• Utilize class time to continue student learning progress.
• Engage all students with interactive, effective teaching methods.
• Organize students and classroom for effective instruction.
• Complete Substitute Teacher Report Form at end of assignment.
• Return materials and keys to proper location at day end.
• Perform other related duties as assigned by building administrators.
