Job summary

City of Boston is seeking a Real Estate Development Officer to manage redevelopment of vacant parcels, coordinating due diligence, financial analysis, community engagement and legal transactions to support housing, open space, or economic development across Boston.

The role requires the ability to lead cross‑functional teams, navigate Massachusetts Chapter 30B, and work with the Public Property and Planning divisions to advance equitable neighborhood development. Boston residency is required.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Urban Planning, Real Estate, Public Administration, or related field.
• Two or more years of directly relevant real estate development experience.
• Master's degree preferred and may substitute for required experience.
• Understanding of Massachusetts General Laws Chapter 30B governing public real estate disposition.
• Excellent public speaking, interpersonal, and negotiation skills with experience engaging diverse populations.
• Strong written communication and detail‑oriented project management.

Responsibilities

• Disposition Research and Planning: prioritize and track disposition status; build financial models; collaborate with staff and stakeholders.
• Community Engagement: lead public discussions and meetings; engage abutters; ensure inclusive processes and equity.
• Technical Real Estate Property Sales Execution: draft RFPs; apply Chapter 30B; obtain appraisals; advise on land leases and terms with legal and leasing teams.
• Development Underwriting: create pro‑ formas; evaluate proposals; assess feasibility and relative strengths/weaknesses.
• Project Management: oversee projects through inception to construction; coordinate cross‑functional teams; maintain systems for task tracking.
• Fiscal Stewardship: ensure parcels benefit the public; maintain fiscal health; handle additional duties as assigned.
