Job summary

City of Detroit seeks an Urban Government Intern II in the Department of Public Works to assist on specific projects of limited duration. Under supervision, you will provide semi-professional support to a City department, developing project scope and expected results.

You will collect information through surveys, interviews and field observations, analyze data for alignment with department goals, and prepare reports with recommendations.

Qualifications

• Enrollment in a college or university with junior, senior or graduate level class standing.
• Possess a minimum 2.0 grade point average.

Responsibilities

• Confer with school officials and City department/agency management to develop project scope and expected results.
• Prepare process and project management charts, questionnaires, abstracts, descriptions and other data presentation formats.
• Collect project information by survey, file review, field observation, interview and research.
• Analyze information in terms of City department mission and best practices in the field of study.
• Prepare reports and recommendations on investigation results and analysis.
• Present project procedures, conclusions and recommendations.
• Utilize word processing, spreadsheet, database, presentation and other office software as required by project specifics.
• Receive training and experience in the activities of a City department or agency.
