Job summary

City of Salem seeks a Tree Crew Support Worker to assist the Urban Forestry Division with tree maintenance, planting, and related operations. The role includes training alongside current staff, learning GIS inventory, and using asset management software.

The position involves operating landscape tools and heavy equipment, and may require after-hours emergency work and public-facing communication. Ideal candidates will have two years in parks/landscaping and a valid Oregon driver license.

Qualifications

• Two years of experience in parks maintenance, repair, construction, landscaping, horticulture, turf, or related field.
• Must pass the pre-employment background check.
• Must have an Oregon Driver license and driving record meeting City standards.
• Must pass a pre-employment drug screen depending on area assignment.

Responsibilities

• Support tree crews in maintenance, planting, and related tree care activities.
• Operate landscape tools and heavy equipment; drive larger vehicles as needed.
• Interact with the public and provide project information; ensure safety on worksites.
• Participate in trainings and certifications including ISA Arborist, safety, and traffic control.
