The City of Madison is seeking a dynamic leader to establish collaborative relationships with staff, elected officials, community urban forestry advocates, neighborhood associations, and other stakeholders to advance Madison’s urban forest. Starting salary is negotiable within the stated range, with relocation expenses and annual vacation negotiable.

Qualifications

• Four years of experience planting, pruning, removing, treating, fertilizing, and inspecting shade/ornamental trees.
• Knowledge of local tree species and common pests in Madison area.
• Experience with safety protocols for Right of Way tree care.
• Two years of supervisory and budgeting experience.
• Bachelor’s Degree in forestry or related field; or three years supervisory experience with related degree.

Responsabilités

• Lead the Forestry work unit within the Streets Division to protect, expand, and manage the urban canopy while promoting public health and environmental equity.
• Direct field operations including pruning, chemical treatments, storm response, and safety compliance.
• Develop and monitor goals, programs, and performance metrics; manage budgets and reports.
• Coordinate with staff, officials, nonprofits, community groups and other partners; present at Board/Neighborhood meetings.
• Ensure city forestry efforts are equity-focused and compliant with standards.
