Job summary

The City of Lansing is seeking an Arborist-Forestry Worker to join the Operations and Maintenance Division of the Public Service Department. The role focuses on keeping City trees healthy and safe through pruning, removal, planting, and preventive care.

Ideal candidates will have at least three years of tree maintenance experience (including rope/climbing) and a valid CDL-B with Air Brakes. The job includes supervising tasks, operating diverse equipment, and readiness for storm response.

Qualifications

• Three years of experience in all phases of tree maintenance including climbing with rope, saddle, and spurs.
• One year of supervisory experience on a tree crew preferred.
• Must possess valid CDL License, Group B with Air Brakes.

Responsibilities

• Perform tree removal, pruning, planting, cabling, fertilizing, spraying, pest control and other maintenance work.
• Regularly lifting and hauling loads weighing over 90 pounds.
• Diagnosing tree hazards and recommending corrective action.
• Inspecting work and providing safe procedures guidance to staff.
• Operating equipment such as saws, chippers, loaders, backhoes, aerial lifts, stump grinders and related gear.
• Performing emergency work during storms and inclement weather.
