Pleasant Valley Baptist Church is seeking an Upward Ministry Coordinator to plan and run Upward Sports leagues with a focus on Christ-centered ministry. The position is part-time (20 hours/week), evenings and weekends, with supervisory elements and a ministerial designation. Prior experience in ministry and volunteer leadership is preferred.

Qualifications

Responsibilities

• Cast vision of Upward Sports with ministry partners to share the vision.
• Invite, develop, lead and celebrate teams of Ministry Partners to serve in Upward.
• Communicate about and promote the Upward program inside PV and in the community.
• Ensure on-site leadership for each practice and game day.
• Prioritize people first within the ministry and build trust and respect.
• Maintain equipment/fields/courts with the Upward Operations Coordinator.
• Respect budget processes and track the Upward budget.
• Partner with Children’s Ministry Team for strategic alignment.
• Supervise and support the Upward Operations Coordinator.
• Lead with decisions and goals for PV ministries.

Description Summary

The Upward Ministry is a valuable and integral part of the overall Next Gen Ministry. Upward Sports focuses on strengthening relationships, enabling kids and families to learn the basics of each sport offered at PV and grow deeper in their relationship with Jesus Christ. The mission of reaching the entire family is a primary focus.

The Upward Ministry Coordinator is responsible for the successful planning, organization and implementation of all Upward Sports leagues conducted at Pleasant Valley. It is imperative that the Coordinator maintain a vibrant relationship with Christ and that focus on Him is central in the ministry. It is also important that the Coordinator embrace and create an atmosphere of equipping ministry partners to serve the kingdom. The goal and desire is that each person the Coordinator comes in contact with would know the love of Jesus Christ by the words and actions of the Coordinator and would desire to serve Him more.

PV Membership is required for this position.

Job Responsibilities

1. Cast vision of Upward Sports with ministry partners so that they are able to grasp and share the vision with others.
2. Invite, develop, lead and celebrate teams of Ministry Partners to serve in Upward, including coaches, referees, game-day support teams, game day set up and tear down teams, field striping team, care team, etc.
   • Develop, coordinate, and provide ministry partner training.
   • Intentionally develop discipling relationships with key leaders.
   • Celebrate and appreciate each season’s ministry partners.
3. Communicate about and promote the Upward program both inside PV and within the community at large.
   • Coordinate Upward ministry promotion and supporting information with other PV departments, and with school districts and other entities.
   • Communicate all league information to Upward families and volunteers.
   • Respond to emails, telephone calls, and other requests for information in a timely fashion.
4. Ensure “on-site” leadership is present for each practice time and game day with priority on:
   • Ministry engagements and relationship building.
   • Resolving problems/conflicts within the Upward League.
   • Addressing any personality conflicts or inappropriate conduct by coaches, referees, parents, and players.
5. Prioritize people first within the ministry ensuring that within each sport, we are:
   • Enabling coaches, referees, players and families to grow in relationship with one another so that is built on trust and respect.
   • Ensuring that each practice and game day begins with a Huddle and Prayer time for referees and coaches allowing everyone to focus their efforts and energy on Christ first.
   • Demonstrating good sportsmanship for all (referees, coaches, players and families).
6. Ensure all Equipment/Fields/Courts are maintained with the support of the Upward Operations Coordinator:
   • Partners with PV Facilities Team to ensure quality control, maintenance, and improvement of the fields and courts during each Upward season.
   • Inventories equipment and equipment storage areas regularly to ensure equipment is in good condition and stored appropriately.
   • Ensures equipment and fields/courts are set up and ready for practices and games.
7. Ensure that the Upward budget process is honored and that the budget is tracked and maintained.
8. Partner with the Children’s Ministry Team:
   • To create strategic pathways for Upward kids and families to engage with PV ministries.
   • To ensure that events and offerings are being promoted within Upward.
   • To ensure strategic alignment with the larger Next Gen Team.
9. Supervise, care for, and support the Upward Operations Coordinator ensuring ministry excellence.
10. Lead in a way that all decisions and goals are what is best for the people and ministries of PV.
11. Always continue to seek out spiritual growth for self, finding new resources and ways to grow and learn.

This position has been designated as ministerial by the Personnel and Leadership Team of Pleasant Valley Baptist Church and is therefore exempt from federal and state employment laws, including laws regarding wages, hours and overtime pay.
