Job summary

Bowdoin College's Upward Bound program invites applications for the Upward Bound Advisor for Washington County in Brunswick, Maine. The role provides one-on-one academic, personal, career and college counseling to area students, plus group activities and oversight of tutors and mentors.

The advisor collaborates with target school staff and families to recruit eligible students, plan outreach, arrange tutoring, college visits, mentoring, and cultural activities across Washington County.

Qualifications

• Associates or vocational/technical degree in a relevant field.
• Effective writing and verbal communications skills.
• Ability to present effectively to small and large groups and to work productively with a wide range of constituencies in a diverse community.
• Proficient computer skills including use of social media, presentation, database and spreadsheet software.
• Must be able to work well both independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.
• A valid Maine driver's license and the ability to comply with the College’s Motor Vehicle Use Policy is required.
• Ability to regularly work and travel throughout Maine.
• Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Provide one-on-one school-based academic, personal, career and college counseling to area students and oversee tutors and mentors.
• Identify and recruit eligible students with area school staff and families; plan and implement regional outreach activities including tutoring, college visits, mentoring, job shadows and cultural enrichment.
