Piper Companies is seeking an Upstream Process Engineer to join a leading biotechnology manufacturing organization in Holly Springs, North Carolina. The role provides hands-on manufacturing support for upstream bioprocess operations and acts as a SME for critical production equipment, partnering with cross-functional teams to sustain reliable performance.

Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in Chemical Engineering or related engineering discipline is required.
6+ years of process engineering experience in a manufacturing setting, preferably biotech/pharma.
Hands-on support for stainless steel bioprocess equipment and upstream operations.
Experience with process controls, automation, and automation interfaces.
Experience with deviations, investigations, change controls, and equipment improvements.

Responsibilities

Provide day-to-day technical support for upstream manufacturing operations, ensuring safe and compliant equipment performance.
Lead troubleshooting of bioprocess equipment, automation systems, and process controls.
Manage investigations, deviations, and change controls while driving timely resolutions.
Collaborate with Maintenance, Automation, I&C, and Manufacturing teams to optimize reliability and production.
Serve as equipment owner for media preparation systems and support upstream equipment like bioreactors and filtration.
