Job summary

M.C. Dean, Inc is seeking a field technician for the Critical Power group in the Lansing area to install and maintain UPS, battery systems, and related power equipment.

You will learn safety procedures, perform tests, document issues, and travel up to 75%, collaborating with engineers and customers. The role requires a high school diploma or GED with 4+ years experience and a strong commitment to safety and quality.

Qualifications

  • Experience in maintenance of power equipment preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Learn critical power and battery systems concepts, safety, and troubleshooting.
  • Install battery systems and take electrical readings.
  • Diagnose malfunctioning systems using test equipment and hand tools.
  • Generate tickets to schedule maintenance and repairs per OEM standards.
  • Travel up to 75% to service customer sites.

Responsibilities

The MC Dean Critical Power department provides our customers with safe and effective maintenance and installation of UPS, battery, and other critical power equipment. This position requires an individual who is keen on learning new applications and capable of critical thinking, customer service, and problem solving as well as working independently after receiving adequate training.

  • Learn and understand topics including critical power and battery systems, LOTO, safety, and troubleshooting.
  • Installing battery systems, taking electrical readings, and testing continuity of circuits using appropriate equipment.
  • Diagnosing malfunctioning systems, apparatus, and components, using test equipment and hand tools, to locate the cause of a breakdown and correct the problem.
  • Generate tickets to ensure equipment maintenance and repair is completed in accordance with OEM standards.
  • Travel up to 75% of the time.
Qualifications
  • This position requires a High School Diploma or GED with 4+ years of experience
  • This position may require ongoing or intermittent use of a company vehicle. Selected candidates must possess an acceptable driving record in accordance to our policy.

Abilities
  • The position requires the ability to lift, carry, and move objects weighing up to [50 pounds] on a regular basis. Candidates must demonstrate physical strength and stamina to perform various tasks, including but not limited to, loading, and unloading, operating equipment, and assisting in the transportation of various materials. Proper lifting techniques and safety protocols must be followed to ensure personal and team safety.
  • Relocates a 12-foot stepladder without assistance.
  • Works at various heights up to 60 feet and can climb and maintain balance on scaffolds, aerial lifts, catwalks and all types of ladders.
  • Walks, climbs, lifts, squats, crawls, kneels, pushes, pulls, and reaches overhead on a routine and repetitive basis.
  • Possess good vision (may be corrected vision), the ability to see in color, and the ability to hear and communicate in English.
  • May use a standard ladder without exceeding the weight limit while carrying tools.
  • Tell when something is wrong or is likely to go wrong. It does not involve solving the problem, only recognizing there is a problem.
  • Apply general rules to specific problems to produce answers that make sense.
