Job summary

ABB, a leader in energy distribution solutions, seeks a Battery Service Engineer in Richmond, VA. You will oversee deployment, maintenance strategy, and readiness of UPS battery infrastructure, transitioning from hands-on work to program-level ownership while ensuring safety and regulatory compliance.

Responsibilities include developing installation and maintenance programs, managing SLAs, and leading RCA investigations. Travel to domestic sites is expected at ~50–75% initially.

Qualifications

• Bachelor degree in Engineering and at least 6 years in field service for industrial UPS systems.
• Experience with VRLA, NiCad, and Lithium-Ion battery technologies.
• Proficiency with diagnostic tools and data loggers for failure analysis.
• Familiarity with CMMS, Excel, and Power BI for data and maintenance management.

Responsibilities

• Develop and manage programs for installation, startup, configuration, maintenance, and testing of UPS battery strings.
• Oversee field engineers and third-party vendors; define SOWs and SLAs; audit field reports.
• Lead RCA investigations and implement preventative actions for battery issues.
• Standardize safety protocols following OSHA/NFPA 70E and EPA disposal requirements.
• Interface with field operations, engineering, and clients to maximize uptime.
