Nansemond-Suffolk Academy is an independent coeducational, college preparatory day school serving grades Pre-Kindergarten (including 2-year-olds) through 12. The school has approximately 900 students and 180 employees on two campuses in Suffolk, Virginia. It is accredited by the Virginia Association of Independent Schools.

The Opportunity
We seek a dynamic Visual Arts Teacher for the Upper School for the 2025-2026 academic year. This full-time, 10-month position involves teaching a range of visual art courses to students in grades 9-12, including 2D and 3D design, digital photography, and graphic design. The ideal candidate will have a passion for the arts, deep knowledge of artistic techniques and media, and a commitment to inspiring students. Experience across mediums such as drawing, painting, ceramics, sculpture, printmaking, digital art, and Adobe Creative Suite is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Plan and deliver engaging visual arts instruction for grades 9-12
  • Teach various media and techniques, including traditional and digital arts
  • Create a classroom environment fostering creativity and growth
  • Collaborate with department colleagues and participate in school activities
  • Maintain a safe, organized studio environment
  • Showcase student work and promote the program
  • Participate in meetings and professional development
  • Utilize technology effectively in teaching
  • Perform additional duties as assigned

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Visual Arts, Art Education, or related field
  • Teaching certification preferred
  • 2-5 years secondary teaching experience preferred
  • Proficiency with Adobe Creative Suite and digital photography
  • Experience with SmartBoards, digital projectors, Apple technology preferred
  • Familiarity with Google Workspace, Blackbaud, LMS preferred
