Job summary

Ashley Hall School seeks an experienced full‑time Chemistry teacher to join its upper school science faculty. In addition to teaching their primary subject, Ashley Hall science teachers are asked to offer at least one elective science course.

They are welcome to propose course topics for approval by the Department Chair. The successful candidate must have experience teaching a variety of high school levels (grades 9‑12), including AP where possible, and differentiate instruction to access

Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in Chemistry preferred.
  • Minimum five years secondary teaching experience preferred.
  • Ability to differentiate instruction for high school students.
  • Experience with student-centered and experiential instruction.
  • Proficiency with developmentally appropriate instructional strategies for upper school-aged students.

Responsibilities

  • Teach core Chemistry and at least one elective science course.
  • Design course content and materials for core and elective classes.
  • Provide regular feedback to guide student learning and progress.
  • Offer regular office hours for extra help and support.
  • Collaborate with department members and administration in a team environment.
  • Possess initiative and adapt courses for interdisciplinary opportunities and IB readiness.

Position Summary and Personal Attributes

Ashley Hall School seeks an experienced full‑time Chemistry teacher to join its upper school science faculty. In addition to teaching their primary subject, Ashley Hall science teachers are asked to offer at least one elective science course. They are welcome to propose course topics for the approval of their Department Chair. The successful candidate must have experience teaching a variety of levels in the high school (grades 9‑12) including standard and Advanced Placement levels. Though not a requirement, a strong teaching background in the International Baccalaureate Diploma Program or training in IB methodology would be advantageous. The successful candidate will have a love for teaching and working with high school students; placing them at the center of the learning experience. Such an inspirational teacher must possess excellent knowledge of the subjects they are to teach. At the core of the successful candidate’s instructional methodology is the ability to differentiate instruction so students of various levels can successfully access learning. We seek an individual with the skills and determination to make a significant difference in the lives of our students within the guiding framework of the school’s mission: empowering young women to think critically, act ethically, and embrace their world with confidence.

Key Requirements
  • Master’s degree in Chemistry is preferred
  • A minimum of five (5) or more years teaching experience at the secondary level is preferred
  • Commitment to ensuring high standards of teaching and learning.
  • Training in and/or experience with student‑centered and experiential instruction
  • Proficiency with developmentally‑appropriate instructional strategies for teaching upper school‑aged children

  • A proven record of collaborative teaching

Successful applicants for this position will be able

  • Proactively communicate with students, parents, and administration about student progress or concerns
  • Design course content and materials for core classes and elective courses
  • Create and administer lessons and assessments to gauge acquisition of core content competencies
  • Provide regular office hours for students to get extra help and individual assistance
  • Possess the flexibility and willingness to teach interdisciplinary courses
  • Embrace a team‑oriented academic environment where courses are taught with an emphasis on student engagement
  • Exhibit a proficiency and demonstrated experience with subject relevant technologies that support instruction and student exploration.
  • Be an exceptional self‑starter with a high degree of self management and the ability to take initiative while being in continuous communication and collaboration with department members and administration
