Job summary

Dwight-Englewood School in Englewood, NJ seeks an experienced Upper School Robotics Coach to lead its FTC-based program for grades 9–12. The role focuses on programming, CAD modeling, systems integration, and iterative problem solving, with emphasis on leadership and ethical, collaborative learning.

Open to students in grades 9–12 and offering professional mentorship. The position is a part-time stipend role (up to $15,000) for mid-September through mid-April, with multiple weekend competitions

Qualifications

  • Experience teaching, coaching, mentoring, or supervising adolescents.
  • Strong project management and organizational skills.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills with knowledge of diversity, equity, inclusion and ethical conduct.
  • Knowledge of and commitment to student well-being and developmentally appropriate coaching.

Responsibilities

  • Attend and supervise approximately six weekend competitions each year, providing active student oversight throughout each full-day competition.
  • Establish clear team structures, student leadership roles, expectations, and communication practices.
  • Develop a structured progression of technical and leadership skills for both new and experienced team members.
  • Guide students through the full engineering design process from problem identification to testing and competition.
  • Ensure all students have meaningful roles and understand their contribution to the team.
  • Promote collaboration across programming, mechanical, CAD, strategy, outreach, and other areas.
  • Create and manage a seasonal project plan with milestones, deadlines, and testing schedules.
  • Mentor student leaders and teach communication, decision-making, accountability, and team management.
  • Maintain a culture of inclusion, respect, and student well-being.
  • Collaborate with faculty, alumni, mentors, and partners to expand learning opportunities.
  • Supervise practices, competitions, travel, equipment use, and student activities in line with policies and safety.
  • Communicate regularly with students, families, faculty, administrators, mentors, and organizers.
  • Support the School's Mission in daily practice.
