Job Overview

Montessori School of Denver (MSD) in Colorado seeks an Upper School Learning Specialist (Grades 4‑8) for the 2026‑2027 school year. This full‑time, on‑campus position is dedicated to providing targeted, evidence‑based academic intervention in literacy and mathematics while bridging assessment data and classroom instruction.

Key Responsibilities
Direct Academic Intervention
  • Design and implement high‑impact, small‑group interventions in math and literacy for 4th–8th grade students.
  • Use evidence‑based strategies to close specific learning gaps, including structured literacy approaches and conceptual mathematical frameworks.
  • Integrate executive‑functioning skills such as organization and study strategies to promote student independence.
Assessment, Data Analysis & Systems Thinking
  • Coordinate and support standardized and formative assessments across the Upper School.
  • Analyze assessment results to identify trends, measure growth, and adjust instructional strategies.
  • Apply systems thinking to evaluate intervention protocols and recommend improvements for the broader learning‑support framework.
  • Manage documentation of student accommodations and learning support plans.
  • Collaborate with classroom lead teachers to differentiate core curriculum and align intervention goals with classroom expectations.
  • Communicate with families of supported students regarding progress and home‑school alignment.
  • Participate in multi‑disciplinary team meetings, including administrators and mental health staff.
  • Facilitate transition of learning support plans for students moving to middle or high school.
  • Contribute to school community through faculty meetings, committees, and other school functions.
Professional Leadership & Best Practices
  • Stay current with neuro‑affirming, special education, and pedagogical best practices.
  • Provide professional development resources to faculty and families on differentiated instruction and inclusive classroom practices.
  • Maintain meticulous records of student progress and interventions, meeting all regulatory standards.
Qualifications & Values
  • Master’s degree in Special Education, Learning Disabilities, or a related field (preferred). Montessori training in upper elementary or adolescent education is preferred.
  • Proven experience delivering math and literacy interventions for grades 4‑8.
  • Commitment to the school’s mission of respect, student agency, and academic excellence.
  • Proficiency in analyzing complex data sets and translating findings into actionable instructional plans.
Work Environment & Physical Demands

FLSA Status: Exempt Employee, 190 Days Paid

Compensation: Salary range starting at $50,000
