Job description

UPPER SCHOOL HISTORY TEACHER

LOUISVILLE COLLEGIATE SCHOOL

REPORTS TO:

Head of Upper School

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Working closely with the Head of the Upper School, the History Department Chair, and colleagues within the History Department, this individual will teach four or five history classes, promoting high levels of learning in an engaging and effective manner.

ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES AS REQUIRED:

  • Serve as faculty advisor to ten to fifteen upper school students
  • Coach or lead extra-curricular activities as agreed upon with the Head of the Upper School
  • Serve as a member of the History Department, attending departmental meetings, developing and updating course curricula, and supporting the work of the department
  • Support the school, its mission, and its leadership
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Head of School

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND EXPERIENCE:

  • A bachelor’s degree in History or a related field is required; advanced degree preferred
  • Classroom experience teaching upper school History or a related subject
  • Proven ability to differentiate instruction when necessary to reach all levels of learners
  • Ability to integrate technology, use innovative curricula, and employ best pedagogical practices
  • Collaborative spirit in developing curricula and teaching methods, both within the department and across other disciplines
  • Willingness to provide extra help for students of all ranges and abilities daily during available office hours
  • Understanding of the developmental needs of upper school students
  • Enthusiastic involvement in the school community outside the classroom
  • Proven positive working relationships with colleagues, students, and families
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and oral
  • Proven organizational skills
  • Experience with block schedules preferred
