Job summary

The Cathedral School of St. John the Divine seeks an engaging Upper School Debate Coach to lead the Middle School Debate program within a diverse, Episcopal-connected K-8 community. The position is hourly and in-person, reporting to the Head of Upper School, with a start in Fall 2026.

A high school diploma is required and a Bachelor's degree is preferred. Responsibilities include planning weekly practices, coaching at tournaments, coordinating with grade deans, and maintaining consistent

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED (Bachelor’s Degree preferred).
• Experience coaching or teaching Debate; MSPDP format is a plus.
• Strong organization and communication skills.
• Ability to work productively and collaboratively with a diverse faculty and student body.

Responsibilities

• Foster a healthy and supportive team environment.
• Oversee all aspects of the Middle School Debate program
• Develop and execute practice plans for weekly meetings
• Chaperone and coach students at debate tournaments
• Collaborate with the Upper School leadership team to provide students with individualized help and support, including maintaining consistent behavioral expectations
• Communicate regularly with parents
• Organize weekend debate trips, including overseeing logistics, transportation, and securing chaperones.
