Upper Elementary Teacher | St. Mary Catholic School in Colby

Saint Mary Catholic School in Colby is seeking a passionate, faith-filled educator to join our growing school community for the 2026–2027 academic year. We are a vibrant Catholic school committed to academic excellence, character formation, and nurturing the whole child in a Christ-centered environment.

We are currently accepting applications for an energetic and dynamic Upper Elementary Teacher. This position can be tailored to a teacher’s strengths and preferences in content areas or grade levels, with 4th and 5th grade being our greatest current need.

Qualifications
  • Qualified candidates should possess a Bachelor’s Degree (preferably in Education or equivalent)
  • A Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction Teaching License
  • Great organizational and interpersonal skills
  • Effective classroom management and knowledge of best teaching practices
  • Prefer applicants who are faith-filled, collaborative, motivated, and committed to working with students and families.

Responsibilities
  • Religious Atmosphere
    • Provide a good Christian model and example in one’s attitudes and actions.
    • Encourage spiritual growth in students by developing inner discipline, character, morals, and values.
    • Provide leadership in living and celebrating life and liturgies.
  • Teaching Responsibilities
    • Prepare daily lesson plans in all required subjects.
    • Prepare instructional activities allowing for individual differences among the students assigned.
      • Use small group and individualized instruction as a mode of instruction.
      • Provide opportunities for the enhancement of the students’ self-concepts.
      • Assist individuals in resolving learning difficulties.
    • Develop evaluation techniques that are appropriate to class and individual objectives.
      • Prepare adequately for parent conferences.
      • Keep a reliable set of records for review by the administrator, department chair and parents.
      • Call for case conferences with resource personnel whenever consultation with the administrator determines need.
    • Encourage integrated instruction whenever possible.
      • Plan experiences that include various disciplines.
      • Incorporate the humanities and fine arts.
      • Provide opportunities for critical thinking, problem-solving, and the development of study skills.
    • Provide a secure and comfortable learning environment.
      • Maintain a neat classroom.
      • Encourage a love of learning.
      • Prepare attractive bulletin boards and display students’ work.
    • Take responsibility for the care of instructional materials and equipment.
  • Supervising Responsibilities
    • Responsible for supervising students by the building regulations established.
      • Provide supervision in the areas to which his/her students are assigned.
      • Encourage students to conduct themselves in the manner and mode of conduct that has been defined as acceptable by the administrator and staff.
      • Accept and perform supervisory duties as assigned.
      • Supervise and discipline regardless of grade level.
    • Share in responsibility for safety and health of each child.
  • Professional Responsibilities
    • Responsible for carrying his/her share of professional duties as assigned by the administrator.
      • Attend all faculty, in-service, home-school, and parish meetings according to the areas of responsibility.
      • Actively participate in school committee assignments.
      • Earn and maintain Religious Certification.
    • Responsible for continued personal and professional growth.
      • Complete the necessary credits to keep your teaching license updated.
      • Read professional magazines to stay updated in the field of education.
      • Attend workshops and seminars in related fields for personal and professional development.
  • Compliance
    • Responsible for complying with all areas addressed in the contract and policies of the Diocese of La Crosse.
