Job summary

Bernhardt Design Division in Lenoir, NC (Plant 7) is seeking an Upholstery Apprentice to learn and support the crafting of sofas, chairs and other upholstered pieces. You will work closely with a production team to build samples, apply techniques, and grow upholstery skills in a fast-paced manufacturing setting.

You will gain hands-on experience, learn best practices, and contribute to efficiency while meeting project deadlines and ensuring quality during the sample-to-production process.

Job description

Bernhardt Design Division is looking for a Upholstery Apprentice. Position will be located at Plant 7 (1402 Morganton Blvd) in Lenoir, NC

Primary Responsibilities:

• Learn to upholster and build custom pieces of furniture which includes sofas, chairs, ottomans, stools, etc.
• Collaborate with existing team on best practices for production of new and existing upholstered product.
• Maintain detailed specifications during the sample building process to ensure correct procedures are followed during the actual production & manufacturing process.
• Troubleshoot and engineer potential issues specific to new samples before they are released into production.
• Assist in creating new and innovative solutions for increased productivity during the sample creation process.
• Continuously learn and research best practices regarding the craft of upholstery within the industry.

Preferred Experience & Skill Set:

• Proficient with upholstery tools such as: staple gun, scissors, regulator, tape measure, pliers, etc.
• Ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
• Ability to multi-task and possess excellent communication and time management skills.
• Ability to meet set deadlines that will impact the development process.

Ability to train other team members to become proficient on new upholstery techniques.
