Job summary

StandardAero, a leader in MRO services, seeks an Upholsterer II to support aircraft interior upholstery and trim completions. You will interpret patterns, cut and sew fabrics, and assist in covering flight control surfaces, with on-site customer interaction and strict adherence to safety and quality standards.

Qualifications

  • High School diploma or equivalent required.
  • 5+ years' experience in aircraft interiors or related upholstery.
  • Fundamental knowledge of upholstery trade and fabrics.
  • Ability to follow patterns, cut fabrics, and sew seams.
  • Experience with hand and power tools, sewing machines.
  • Read, comprehend, and document work clearly.
  • Authorized to work in the U.S.
  • Physically able to lift up to 75 pounds and work in demanding positions.

  • Cut, sew, cement, and trim upholstery fabrics for drapery, divans, chairs, and coverings.
  • Assist in covering flight control surfaces and stripping fabric for remodeling.
  • Cut preform foam rubber and cover with material; install carpeting using patterns.
  • Assist in hand forming leather and heating vinyl for forming.
  • Sew routine seams and perform simple assemblies; assist with more complex sewing under direction.
  • Document all work clearly and sign off; maintain safety and housekeeping policies.

The Upholsterer II is responsible for using sound judgment and technical aptitude to make decisions regarding upholstery and trim completions. Customer satisfaction hinges upon sound decisions and expedient action on the part of the Upholsterer. As customers are on site at the facilities, professional appearance and communication skills are required in order to create a positive and lasting professional relationship.

What You'll Do
  • Interpret simple patterns to plan and lay out less complex upholstery accessories for the aircraft.
  • Cut, sew, cement, and trim upholstery fabrics for drapery, divans, chairs, headliners, side panels, containers, and engine and propeller covers.
  • Assist in covering flight control surfaces.
  • Perform basic stripping operations of fabric from aircraft surfaces to prepare for remodeling and recovering.
  • Cut preform foam rubber and covers it with sheeting or fabric covers.
  • Cut and install carpeting by use of patterns.
  • Assist in hand forming wet or dry leather to divans and chairs and in using heat to form vinyl materials.
  • May sew routine seams and perform simple assemblies, and, under direction, perform more complex sewing operations.
  • Document all work accomplished (a.k.a. sign-off) in a clear, concise, and accurate manner.
  • Work overtime and minimal travel to customer locations or other facilities as required.
  • Responsible for knowing, understanding, following, promoting, and continuously improving company policies and procedures.
  • Observe all safety, environmental, and general housekeeping rules and policies.
  • May perform other duties as required by the department.
Position Requirements
  • High School diploma or equivalent.
  • 5+ years' experience in aircraft interiors, or in upholstery in a relevant industry (i.e. automobile, marine, or furniture).
  • Must have a fundamental knowledge of the upholstery trade and the use of fabrics.
  • Ability to follow simple patterns and prints to cut fabrics, cover preformed materials, cut and lay carpeting, and sew routine seams.
  • Proven experience using a variety of hand and power tools. Must be able to set-up and operate sewing machines.
  • Must be able to read and comprehend written instructions, and speak and write clearly to communicate and document work performed.
  • Must be authorized to work in the U.S.
  • Must be able to lift up to 75 pounds walk, bend, stretch, and climb ladders.
  • Must be able to work in strained or fatiguing positions for long periods of time.
  • Must be able to see to perform cutting, sewing, and trim work.
  • Must be able to manipulate equipment of all sizes, hand and power tools, computer keyboards, and telephones.
  • Must have excellent hand-to-eye coordination.
  • Must be able to work outside in extreme temperatures and inclement weather.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Previous experience in an aviation and/or MRO environment.

Salary: $26.41 - 39.62

The compensation package for this position also includes a performance-based cash and equity incentives. Actual pay will be determined based on the selected candidate's skills, experience, and internal equity considerations.
