Job summary

Duncan Aviation in Provo, UT seeks an Upholstery Specialist to foam, sew, design, and upholster aircraft interiors per customer specs and Duncan procedures.

You will work in a safe, organized area, building seat components, modifying patterns, and ensuring compliance with FAA standards. Regular hours Mon-Fri; relocation assistance available and a strong benefits package.

Qualifications

  • High School graduate or equivalent required.
  • Mechanical/Hands-on, sewing, or fabric experience preferred.
  • Valid driver's license and acceptable driving record.

Responsibilities

  • Disassemble, repair, recover and reassemble aircraft seats with minimal supervision.
  • Shape foam to contours per blueprints and design center drawings; modify seats.
  • Prepare seats for upholstering by stripping foam and covers and cleaning panels.
  • Sew, modify and install seat covers and curtains using sewing machines and hand tools.
  • Design seat patterns according to customer and designer specifications.
  • Assist training team members to develop job knowledge and performance.
  • Prepare and sign off documents per procedures, manuals, and FAA regulations.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned by supervisor or management.

Job description

TheUpholstery Specialistfoams, sews, designs, upholsters airplane interiors according to customer specifications and Duncan Aviation approved procedures in a safe and organized work area. Essential Job Functions

1. Withminimal supervision, disassembles, repairs, recovers and reassembles aircraft seats. Prepares miscellaneous seat parts and accessories for paint. Performs basic troubleshooting of seat assemblies.

2. Withminimal supervision, selects and shapes foam to contours and specifications prescribed on the blueprints and per customer approved design center conceptual drawings. Performs minor modifications to seats and accessories.

3. With minimal supervision, prepares seats for upholstering by stripping all foam and covers using various hand tools according to Duncan Aviation approved procedures. Cleans glue off panels and strips materials from parts.

4. With minimal supervision, sews, modifies and installs seat covers, curtains and miscellaneous items using sewing machine, glue gun and other hand tools.

5. With minimal supervision, designs seat patterns according to customer and designer specifications.

6. Assists with training team members to develop job knowledge and improve performance.

7. With immediate supervision prepares, researches, and signs off various documents for record keeping purposes as required by Duncan approved procedures, manufacturers' maintenance manuals, and FAA regulations( i.e. turnovers, removal sheets, flammability testing, W.O. Sheets and other work order related documents supporting the squawks and expected hours).

8. Performs other related duties as assigned by supervisor and/or management.

Job Specific Requirements
  • Licenses/Certificates: Valid driver's license and acceptable driving record
  • Attendance:Regularly scheduled attendance required
  • Physical:Routinely lifts up to 50 lbs., occasionally 100 lbs.; reads small print; hearing sounds associated with mechanical deficiencies; repetitive motion; works with moving parts and vibration; tolerates working in confined spaces; tolerates products and materials associated with component maintenance; tolerates standing, walking, bending, kneeling, stooping, crouching, crawling, climbing and sitting
  • Environmental:Tolerates working in extreme temperatures and noisy environments
  • Work Schedule: Mon-Fri 7am-3:30pm
Education and Experience:
Upholstery Assistant:
  • High School graduate or equivalent required
  • Mechanical/Hands-on, sewing, or fabric experience preferred
Upholstery Specialist I:
  • High School graduate or equivalent required
  • Associates degree in related field preferred
  • Minimum one year upholstery/sewing experience required
Upholstery Specialist II:
  • High School graduate or equivalent required
  • Minimum two years aviation interior upholstery required
Upholstery Specialist III:
  • High School graduate or equivalent required
  • Minimum four years experience in upholstery required
  • Minimum three years aviation interior upholstery experience preferred
