The duties and responsibilities of the Convertible Top/ Upholstery Technician are subject to change to accommodate the small business needs. The primary responsibility of this position is to provide support to the automotive and design/build upholstery business including repairs, refurbishment and fabrication of interior soft goods primarily including installation of convertible tops in addition to seat covers and components, interior panels, carpets and other misc upholstery including but not limited to stripping and recovering existing interior coverings on automotive and marine vehicles. In addition, this position supports the design/ build upholstery business including repairs, refurbishment and fabrication of restaurant and commercial seating and design panels as well as various equipment covers, bags, and other protective equipment.

What you’ll be doing:

• The Convertible Top/Upholstery Technician’s primary role is the installation of convertible tops on all makes and models of vehicles
• Removes automotive seating and interior components from the vehicle to gain access to necessary components in the course of a convertible top replacement
• Must also assist in providing a well-maintained, safe, and economical facility by assuring the highest level of quality to each customer and employee, economically, properly, and profitably
• As the needs of the business requires: removes existing covers and upholstery, applies new covers and upholstery using adhesives, staples, hog rings etc, and reinstalls completed components into the vehicle according to customer specifications and approved procedures in a safe and organized work area
• With minimal supervision, disassembles, repairs, recovers and reassembles various types of seats and upholstery including commercial seating (restaurant, waiting room etc seating). Prepares and paints miscellaneous seat parts and accessories
• Performs basic troubleshooting of seat assemblies
• With minimal supervision, selects and shapes foam to contours and specifications prescribed on the blueprints and per customer approved design center conceptual drawings
• Performs minor modifications to seats and accessories
• With minimal supervision, prepares seats for upholstering by stripping all foam and covers using various hand tools according to approved procedures
• Cleans glue off panels and strips materials from parts
• With minimal supervision, modifies as needed and installs seat covers, curtains and miscellaneous items using sewing machine, glue gun, staple gun and other hand tools
