• Transportation employees are subject to a pre-employment drug test and a physical (initially and annually).
• Applicants must be at least 18 years of age.

Responsibilities

• Meet the requirements of the regular daily bus route to transport children safely.
• Follow all State and Federal rules and regulations.
• Adhere to the Bus Driver and Bus Attendants Handbook policies and procedures.
• Keep buses clean and in an orderly condition.
• Be fair, firm, and mindful of student safety during boarding, riding, and alighting.
• Report unusual incidents and follow Dispatcher directions.
• Report to work as scheduled or early to prepare the bus and start on time.
• Board, transport, and discharge passengers.
• May lift handicapped passengers and operate a mechanized wheelchair lift.
• Ensure students and equipment are securely fastened in seats and routes are up to date.
• Occasionally lift/move up to 50 pounds.
• Travel between district schools and off-site locations as required; perform other related tasks.

Primary Purpose

To ensure the safe transportation of students to and from school.

Essential Functions

• Meet the requirements of the regular daily bus route for the purpose of transporting children to and from school in a safe and timely fashion.
• Follow all State and Federal rules and regulations.
• Adhere to the procedures, policies, and practices presented in the "Bus Driver and Bus Attendants Handbook."
• Keep the buses clean and in an orderly condition.
• Be fair and firm with discipline of your passengers and be mindful of the safety of student riders when they are approaching, entering, riding, and leaving the bus.
• Knowledge of rules pertaining to the transportation of school children with responsibility to advise the students on the bus of the rules and the infractions.
• Responsibility to be courteous, pleasant and demonstrate respect for all students, school personnel, parents and the general motoring public.
• Responsibility to immediately report unusual incidents or events and to follow the directions provided by the Dispatcher.
• Report to work as scheduled or before in order to prepare the bus and start the route on time regardless of weather conditions.
• Board, transport, and discharge passengers.
• May lift handicapped passengers and assist passengers into and out of bus as required by Transportation Services Department policy and procedure.
• May operate a mechanized wheelchair lift.
• Ensure that students and equipment are safely fastened in seats, when necessary.
• Maintain and update current student and trip routes.
• Occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
• Performs other related tasks as assigned.

SALARY:

Bus Aide assignments are compensated in accordance with the State of Delaware and local salary schedules, based on experience. Van Aide assignments are compensated at a flat rate of $18.59 per hour.
