PRIMARY FUNCTION: The Unlicensed Aircraft Mechanic is responsible for ensuring that aircraft and their equipment function safely and efficiently. They service, repair, and overhaul various aircraft components and systems including airframes, engines, electrical and hydraulic systems, propellers, avionics equipment, and aircraft instruments.

Essential Functions:

  1. Performs the full range of airframe and engine maintenance, repair, modifications, inspections, and servicing of aircraft in accordance with approved methods, techniques, and practices and certifies work accomplished.
  2. Troubleshoots engines and systems, uses the Federal Supply System, reads and understands mechanical manuals and schematics, interprets all instruments, uses special test equipment and tools, and researches sections of Aviation Facilities Division.
  3. Performs full system checkout on all aircraft systems, performs mechanic test flight duties, and completes aircraft servicing.
  4. Accompanies Research and Development aircraft on project flights away from the worksite and performs maintenance on the aircraft at locations other than AIMS New Jersey.
  5. The Unlicensed Aircraft Mechanic may be required to perform other related duties to meet the ongoing needs of the organization.

Supervisory Responsibilities: This job has no supervisory responsibilities. This position has the responsibility and authority to carry out assigned tasks.

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities:

  • Beginner to intermediate computer skills, specifically using Microsoft Office Suite; ability to learn additional software. Knowledge of advanced software is preferred.
  • Ability to accurately enter data into databases.
  • Ability to understand and interpret safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
  • Ability to generate routine reports and correspondence.
  • Effective interpersonal skills to work with all management levels and staff, including crew members.
  • Proficiency with general office equipment.
  • Ability to follow processes, provide professional customer service, and perform problem analysis and decision-making.
  • Ability to learn and understand corporate policies and procedures, perform basic mathematical computations, work independently, and multi-task.

Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Minimum of four (4) years of aviation maintenance experience.
  • Civilian or military Aviation Technical School Certification.
  • At least three (3) years of experience on H-60 or UH-60 Blackhawk helicopters.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a Secret Level Government Security Clearance.
  • Familiarity with the Army TAMMS Systems.
  • Complete tool set with a shadowed toolbox.
  • Proficiency in English communication.

Highly Desired:

  • Experience with other helicopters or airplanes.
  • Knowledge of Aviation Ground Support Equipment.
