SUPERVISION RECEIVED: Works under the direction of the EqualOpportunity and Title IX Coordinator or Human Resources dependingon the nature of each assignment.

SUPERVISION EXERCISED: None

POSITION SUMMARY: The University Investigator serves as partof a centralized institutional investigation and resolution teamresponsible for reviewing and responding to a wide range ofUniversity complaints, reports, and policy concerns. Investigatorsare cross-trained to conduct impartial assessments, investigations,and resolution processes involving civil rights matters, EqualEmployment Opportunity (EEO) concerns, workplace misconduct,employee relations issues, student complaints, retaliationconcerns, whistleblower complaints, bullying, and other Universitypolicy violations.

The University Investigator may serve in multiple roles within theUniversity’s resolution processes, including but not limited toIntake Officer, Process Advisor, Hearing Facilitator,Decision-Maker, Appellate Officer, Informal Resolution Facilitator,Administrative Review Support, and Investigator, provided they arenot serving in a conflicting role within the same matter.

The University Investigator supports the University’s commitment tomaintaining a safe, respectful, equitable, and complianteducational and workplace environment by conducting prompt,reliable, thorough, and impartial reviews of reported concerns inaccordance with applicable laws, regulations, and Universitypolicies.

Not all complaints or concerns reported to the University willproceed through a formal investigative process. While certain civilrights, EEO, and Title IX matters may require formal investigativeprocesses under applicable law or University policy, HumanResources-related concerns may be addressed through a range ofresolution approaches, including consultation, administrativereview, managerial intervention, or investigation, as determinedappropriate by the Assistant Vice President of Human Resources ordesignee. The University Investigator assists in assessing reportsand determining appropriate response pathways, which may includesupportive measures, consultation, educational interventions,informal resolution, administrative review, managerial action, orformal investigation.

This position is paid per diem and is ineligible forbenefits.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Conducts prompt, reliable, equitable, and impartial assessmentsand investigations involving alleged violations of Universitypolicies and procedures.
  • Investigates concerns including, but not limited to:
    • Harassment and discrimination
    • Sexual misconduct and Title IX-related concerns
    • Retaliation
    • Equal Employment Opportunity (EEO) complaints
    • Workplace misconduct and employee relations concerns
    • Bullying and abusive conduct
    • Whistleblower and ethics-related complaints
    • Other institutional policy violations as assigned
  • Works collaboratively with the Equal Opportunity and Title IXCoordinator, Human Resources, Student Life, Academic Affairs,Campus Police, General Counsel, and other University officials asappropriate.
  • Conducts intake meetings and preliminary assessments todetermine applicable policies, jurisdiction, and appropriateresolution pathways.
  • Gathers, reviews, and analyzes relevant evidence, includingdocumentation, electronic communications, records, securityfootage, and witness statements.
  • Conducts interviews with complainants, respondents, andwitnesses using trauma-informed, impartial, and culturallyresponsive practices.
  • Maintains detailed and accurate records, includinginvestigative timelines, interview notes, evidence logs,correspondence, and case documentation.
  • Assesses credibility and analyzes information in accordancewith applicable policy, institutional standards, and investigativebest practices.
  • Prepares comprehensive investigative summaries and reportsoutlining relevant evidence, factual findings, and policy analysis,as appropriate.
  • Assists with supportive measures, referrals, safety planning,and coordination with campus resources when appropriate.
  • May assist with informal resolution processes, educationalinterventions, restorative approaches, or other administrativeresolutions when appropriate and permitted by policy.
  • May serve in other institutional process roles including, butnot limited to:
    • Intake Officer
    • Process Advisor
    • Hearing Facilitator
    • Decision-Maker
    • Appellate Officer
    • Informal Resolution Facilitator
    • Administrative Review Support provided they are not serving in a conflicting role within the samematter.
  • Participates in annual and ongoing training related toinvestigations, civil rights compliance, employment practices,trauma-informed interviewing, retaliation, behavioral intervention,and applicable laws and policies.
  • Performs other job-related duties as assigned or needed.

QUALIFICATIONS: Bachelor’s degree required; Master’s degreepreferred; or an equivalent combination of education andinvestigatory experience. Prior experience conductinginvestigations, workplace reviews, compliance assessments, employeerelations matters, student conduct reviews, or other fact-findingprocesses preferred. Experience working in higher education isstrongly preferred. Strong written and oral communication skillsrequired. Computer literacy and experience using Microsoft Office,Google applications, case management systems, and electronicrecordkeeping systems preferred.
