Job summary

City of Baltimore, Mayor's Office of Employment seeks a Lead Automotive Technician to guide and mentor a team of mechanics while personally handling the most complex repairs on USPS fleet vehicles.

You will diagnose, inspect, and oversee maintenance, ensure safety, and utilize computerized testing to keep engines and systems in top condition.

Qualifications

• Minimum 2 years professional automotive mechanic experience.
• Valid State Driver's License.
• Willing to complete a hands-on automotive skills assessment.
• Willing to complete the USPS Federal online application.

Lead Automotive Technician

In this role you will serve as a leader for lower‑level technicians and mechanics in a vehicle maintenance facility. You will also personally perform the most complex repairs and maintenance on all types of motor vehicles used in the postal fleet.

Job duties include:

• Provide technical guidance and instructions to mechanics and technicians on more difficult repairs
• Conduct vehicle inspections, determine necessary repairs, and assign and schedule work for individual employees
• Diagnose vehicles and perform operational checks on engines, major supporting systems, parts and components
• Perform various computerized and electronic diagnostic tests using specialized equipment

Qualifications and Requirements

• Minimum 2 years professional automotive mechanic experience
• Valid State Driver's License
• High School Diploma or GED
• Diagnose, troubleshoot and repair USPS fleet vehicles
• Perform preventive maintenance and major repairs
• Use computerized diagnostic equipment
• Repair engines, brakes, steering, suspension, transmissions and electrical systems
• Lead and provide technical guidance to other technicians
• Maintain repair records and follow all safety procedures
