Kelemen North 7 is a 23-bed medical surgical/telemetry unit specializing in the care oftraumatically injured patients. Patients with injuries that are stable but require ongoing close monitoring are admitted to this unit directly from the ED or the RossTraumaAdmitting Area. Patients are also admitted to the unit as they are downgraded from theTrauma/Surgical ICU or theTraumaStep-Down Unit.Patients usually cared for in this area include those withtraumatic brain injuries, spinal cord injuries, rib fractures and lung injuries, as well as diverse orthopedic injuries requiring frequent monitoring and care.The unit is staffed with registered nurses, critical care technicians,traumasurgery nurse practitioners and resident physicians. Staff also work closely with respiratory therapy and specialized surgical groups such as orthopedics and neurosurgery. Nurses and critical care technicians working in this area receive education specific to the care of thetraumapatient.
