Job summary

Saint Mary of Nazareth Hospital in Chicago is seeking a Unit Secretary for the Cardiac Telemetry department. This full-time role includes day and evening coverage: one 7a–7:30p shift and two 11a–11:30p shifts per week, with rotating holidays and weekends.

The unit secretary supports nursing staff by transcribing orders, preparing patient charts, ordering supplies, and facilitating department communications, while ensuring accuracy and efficiency.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or equivalent and/or relevant experience.
• BLS certification (ARC or AHA) within 30 days and maintain current.
• Medical terminology preferred.
• Effective communication and customer service skills.
• Proficient with Microsoft Office preferred.
• Previous experience in an acute care setting or physician’s practice preferred.

Responsibilities

• The Unit Secretary is accountable to the Director/Manager and supports communication needs of the department.
• Transcribes physician orders in absence of CPOE/EMR with notation and signature by nursing staff.
• Prepares and maintains patient records and charts daily.
• Orders supplies for the unit and supports nursing staff with indirect patient care.

Responsibilities

The Unit Secretary is directly accountable to the Director/Manager, and indirectly to the Charge Nurse, and/or House Supervisor. The Unit Secretary is an unlicensed person who performs indirect care in the department setting. Facilitates the communication needs of the department. Transcribes physician orders from records (in the absence of CPOE and EMR clinical documentation system) with notation and signature by nursing staff. Prepares and complies records on the Emergency Room. Orders supplies for the unit, prepares, and completes each patient’s chart for necessary forms needed daily. Able to assist nursing staff for duties involving indirect patient care.
