Job summary

Johnston-Willis Hospital seeks a dedicated Unit Secretary to maintain an organized, welcoming front in a busy hospital unit. You will greet patients, enter orders, manage records, and liaise with care teams with clear, courteous communication.

You will protect patient information, keep the unit stocked and safe, and support daily operations while upholding our culture of respect and teamwork. Prior hospital experience and familiarity with Meditech are preferred.

Qualifications

• Previous experience as a Unit Secretary in a hospital setting preferred.
• Strong customer service and excellent English communication skills.
• Familiarity with medical terminology.
• Computer literate with ability to use Meditech, Word, Excel, etc.

Responsibilities

• Greeting and guiding patients and visitors with warmth and professionalism, updating and supporting them.
• Maintaining patient records accurately and entering physician orders while protecting patient information.
• Handling communications between incoming calls and care team members to keep the unit connected.
• Keeping the environment clean, organized, and well-stocked to promote safety and comfort.
• Take initiative to solve challenges and support daily operations with teamwork.

Job Summary and Qualifications

As a Unit Secretary, you will play a vital role in delivering exceptional care every day. You will create a welcoming, organized space where patients and families feel valued and informed. You will use clear, compassionate communication and attention to detail to keep the unit running smoothly and caring for others like family – one shift at a time.

Your responsibilities will include:

• Greeting and guiding patients and visitors with warmth and professionalism, offering updates, and ensuring they feel informed and supported

• Maintaining patient records accurately, entering physician orders, and protecting patient information

• Handling all communications between incoming calls and care team members promptly and clearly to keep the unit connected

• Keeping the environment clean, organized, and well-stocked to promote safety and comfort

• Taking initiative to solve challenges, support daily operations, and foster a culture of respect and teamwork

What qualifications you will need:

• Previous experience as a Unit Secretary in a hospital setting is preferred.
• Strong customer service and excellent English communication skills
• Familiarity with medical terminology.
• Computer literate (ability to utilize computer programs such as Meditech, Word, Excel, etc.)
• Ability to perform work that requires frequent standing, bending, reaching and some lifting
