Overview

This position works under the supervision of the Nurse Manager, Registered Nurses, and Licensed Practical Nurse. The Unit Secretary is responsible for customer service, chart management, report retrieval, and patient care duties. Additional responsibilities include ordering supplies, order entry, filing patient information, follow-up with patients and physician offices, and other secretarial/clerical duties as directed.

Location: Williamsburg, Virginia

Shift: Evening and Weekend shifts

Responsibilities include:

  • Accurate and timely order entry, retrieving testing results, researching CPOE, and managing medical records to ensure organized maintenance. Prioritize workload and complete daily duties accurately.
  • Access patient information systems to facilitate transfers and communicate effectively, including ordering supplies and forms.
  • Understand the diverse patient populations served within the community.
  • Answer phones promptly, using appropriate etiquette, and screen calls to support positive customer service. Act as an advocate and greeter for the unit.
  • Maintain a clean, safe, and orderly work environment by cleaning workstations, equipment, stocking supplies, and proper storage.
  • Work effectively as part of a team and independently, keeping team members informed of changes and providing quality care and service.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED (preferred).
  • 1 year of clerical experience in a healthcare setting (preferred).

Hours:

  • Evenings and weekends.
  • Requires flexibility and adaptability, with potential for set hours and short-notice shifts.
