Job summary

Meritus Health is seeking a Unit Nutrition Assistant to join our Nutrition Services team in Hagerstown, MD. You will help deliver high-quality food service to patients by ensuring accurate meal selections, safe food handling, and excellent customer service.

You will serve as a liaison between patients, dietitians, and foodservice staff to promote optimal nutrition care and maximize patient satisfaction, while complying with HACCP, TJC, and MD health standards.

Qualifications

• Education: High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
• Experience: 1-2 years of food service experience preferred, especially with modified diets and direct customer service.
• Clerical/typing ability preferred.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills; ability to follow instructions in a fast-paced healthcare setting.

Responsibilities

• Retrieve, evaluate, and process diet orders/messages and communicate updates to Nutrition Services and Nursing staff.
• Collect patient meal selections via in-person visits or phone calls, ensuring compliance with diet orders and patient preferences.
• Process meal tickets/tally sheets and deliver trays to patients according to schedule.
• Answer and direct phone calls in a professional and courteous manner.
• Operate CBORD and Bedside menu entry systems accurately.
• Practice safe food handling, storage, and infection control per HACCP, TJC, and MD Dept. of Health standards.
