Job summary

Meritus Health is seeking a Unit Nutrition Assistant to join the Nutrition Services team at Meritus Medical Center in Hagerstown, MD. You will help deliver high-quality patient meals, ensure accurate selections, and support safe food handling with a patient-focused approach.

In this role, you will liaise between patients, dietitians, and foodservice staff to promote optimal nutrition care and high patient satisfaction, while providing courteous, reliable service in a fast-paced healthcare

Qualifications

• Education: High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
• Experience: 1–2 years of food service preferred, particularly with modified diets and direct customer service.
• Skills: Strong communication and interpersonal skills; ability to follow instructions in a fast-paced healthcare setting.

Responsibilities

• Retrieve, evaluate, and process diet orders/messages and communicate updates to Nutrition Services and Nursing staff.
• Collect patient meal selections via in-person visits or phone calls, ensuring compliance with diet orders and patient preferences.
• Process meal tickets/tally sheets and deliver trays to patients according to schedule.
• Answer and direct phone calls in a professional and courteous manner.
• Operate CBORD and Bedside menu entry systems accurately.
• Practice safe food handling, storage, and infection control in compliance with departmental and regulatory standards (HACCP, TJC, MD Dept. of Health).

In this role, you will help deliver high-quality food service to patients by ensuring accurate meal selections, safe food handling, and excellent customer service.
