Essential Job Functions:
  1. Assist the DON/ADON in directing day-to-day nursing activities in accordance with the rules and regulations governing the facility.
  2. Participate in developing, maintaining, and updating policies/procedures that govern functions of nursing department.
  3. Ensure that reference material (i.e., PDRs, Federal and State Regulations, etc.) maintained at the nurses' stations is current.
  4. Ensure that all nursing service personnel comply with the procedures set forth in the Nursing Service Procedures Manual.
  5. Make written & oral reports/recommendations to the Director as necessary, concerning operation of the nursing department.
  6. Assist in coordinating nursing with other resident services to ensure the continuity of the residents' total regimen of care.
  7. Ensure that all nursing service personnel are in compliance with their respective job descriptions.
  8. Participate in the development, maintenance, and implementation of quality assurance program for the nursing department.
  9. Participate in facility surveys made by government agencies as requested by the Administrator or DON.
  10. Review residents' written discharge plans and participate in updating as required.
  11. Assist in planning the nursing services portion of the resident's discharge plan.
  12. Meet with nursing staff and support personnel to plan department services, programs, and activities.
  13. Admit, transfer, and discharge residents as required.
  14. Complete accident/incident reports as necessary.
  15. Perform administrative duties such as completing medical forms, reports, evaluations, studies, charting, etc.
  16. Ensure sufficient nursing staff (LPNs/RNs and CNAs) are available for each shift to maintain quality care.
  17. Develop work assignments and assist in completing tasks.
  18. Inform staff of new admissions, room assignments, and ensure rooms are ready.
  19. Greet newly admitted residents and escort them to their rooms as necessary.
  20. Make rounds with physicians as necessary.
  21. Notify physicians and next-of-kin when there is a change in resident's condition.
  22. Provide direct nursing care as necessary.
  23. Attend continuing education programs to maintain licensure.
  24. Ensure personnel follow procedures for PPE use and disposal.
  25. Monitor safety regulations in the use of equipment and supplies.
  26. Recommend equipment and supply needs to the Director.
  27. Maintain adequate stock of medications, supplies, and equipment.
  28. Help develop assessments of nursing needs for residents.
  29. Ensure staff are aware of each resident's care plan.
Qualifications:
  1. Current Massachusetts RN or LPN license.
  2. Nursing degree from an accredited institution or graduate of an approved program.
  3. At least 2 years of supervisory experience in a healthcare setting.
