Essential Job Functions:
- Assist the DON/ADON in directing day-to-day nursing activities in accordance with the rules and regulations governing the facility.
- Participate in developing, maintaining, and updating policies/procedures that govern functions of nursing department.
- Ensure that reference material (i.e., PDRs, Federal and State Regulations, etc.) maintained at the nurses' stations is current.
- Ensure that all nursing service personnel comply with the procedures set forth in the Nursing Service Procedures Manual.
- Make written & oral reports/recommendations to the Director as necessary, concerning operation of the nursing department.
- Assist in coordinating nursing with other resident services to ensure the continuity of the residents' total regimen of care.
- Ensure that all nursing service personnel are in compliance with their respective job descriptions.
- Participate in the development, maintenance, and implementation of quality assurance program for the nursing department.
- Participate in facility surveys made by government agencies as requested by the Administrator or DON.
- Review residents' written discharge plans and participate in updating as required.
- Assist in planning the nursing services portion of the resident's discharge plan.
- Meet with nursing staff and support personnel to plan department services, programs, and activities.
- Admit, transfer, and discharge residents as required.
- Complete accident/incident reports as necessary.
- Perform administrative duties such as completing medical forms, reports, evaluations, studies, charting, etc.
- Ensure sufficient nursing staff (LPNs/RNs and CNAs) are available for each shift to maintain quality care.
- Develop work assignments and assist in completing tasks.
- Inform staff of new admissions, room assignments, and ensure rooms are ready.
- Greet newly admitted residents and escort them to their rooms as necessary.
- Make rounds with physicians as necessary.
- Notify physicians and next-of-kin when there is a change in resident's condition.
- Provide direct nursing care as necessary.
- Attend continuing education programs to maintain licensure.
- Ensure personnel follow procedures for PPE use and disposal.
- Monitor safety regulations in the use of equipment and supplies.
- Recommend equipment and supply needs to the Director.
- Maintain adequate stock of medications, supplies, and equipment.
- Help develop assessments of nursing needs for residents.
- Ensure staff are aware of each resident's care plan.
Qualifications:
- Current Massachusetts RN or LPN license.
- Nursing degree from an accredited institution or graduate of an approved program.
- At least 2 years of supervisory experience in a healthcare setting.
