The primary purpose of the Unit Manager position is to supervise the day-to-day nursing activities of the facility during your shift. Such supervision must be in accordance with current federal, state, and local standards, guidelines, and regulations that govern our facility, and as may be required by the Director of Nursing Services, to ensure that the highest quality of care is maintained at all times.
Essential Job Functions:
- Assist the DON/ADON in directing daily nursing activities in accordance with the rules and regulations governing the facility.
- Participate in developing, maintaining, and updating policies and procedures that govern the nursing department.
- Ensure that reference materials (e.g., PDRs, Federal and State Regulations) maintained at nurses' stations are current.
- Ensure all nursing service personnel comply with procedures set forth in the Nursing Service Procedures Manual.
- Make written and oral reports/recommendations to the Director as necessary concerning the operation of the nursing department.
- Coordinate nursing with other resident services to ensure continuity of care.
- Ensure nursing staff are in compliance with their job descriptions.
- Participate in developing, maintaining, and implementing quality assurance programs.
- Participate in facility surveys by government agencies as requested.
- Review and update residents' discharge plans as required.
- Assist in planning the nursing services portion of the residents' discharge plans.
- Meet with nursing staff and support personnel to plan department services, programs, and activities.
- Admit, transfer, and discharge residents as needed.
Qualifications:
- Must possess a Nursing Degree from an accredited college or university, or be a graduate of an approved LPN/aRN program.
- Minimum of 2 years of supervisory experience in a healthcare setting.
- Current, unencumbered RN or LPN license in this state.
- Knowledge of nursing and medical practices, laws, regulations, and guidelines related to long-term care.
- Leadership and supervisory skills, with the ability to work harmoniously with staff.
- Proficiency in English (reading, writing, speaking, understanding).
- Ability to make independent decisions and handle difficult situations tactfully.
- Ability to plan, organize, develop, implement, and interpret care programs, policies, and procedures.
- Patience, tact, cheerful disposition, enthusiasm, and willingness to handle challenging residents.
