Job summary

New England Homes for the Deaf, Inc. in Massachusetts seeks a Nurse Supervisor (RN or LPN) to lead resident care on a designated unit.

You will supervise nursing staff, ensure compliance with policies, and report incidents promptly to the Director of Nursing Services. The role requires at least two years of supervisory experience in long-term or sub-acute care and a current Massachusetts license (RN or LPN).

  • Working knowledge of State and Federal regulations as they pertain to long-term and sub-acute care.

New England Homes for the Deaf, founded in 1901, is a life plan community that offers a continuum of care to Deaf, Deafblind, and hard of hearing seniors, including independent living, rest home, skilled nursing community, Deaf senior centers, short-term rehabilitation services, respite care services and hospice care. The New England Homes for the Deaf mission is to provide long term healthcare, housing, recreational activities and social support for Deaf, Deafblind and hard of hearing individuals in an accessible, barrier-free, and culturally sensitive environment with optimal communication and architectural resources.

Responsibilities
  • Manages and assumes 24-hour responsibility and accountability for resident care on assigned unit.
  • One weekend a month on-call.
  • Manage the unit in accordance with facility policies and procedures and State and Federal regulations in order to promote the highest practicable care and services to the residents.
  • Ensure complete and prompt reporting of incidents with follow-up, as necessary, to the Director of Nursing Services.
  • Supervise all charge nurses on the unit and meet with them at least monthly.
  • Keep nurses apprised of any changes in policy, procedure, or regulations that will impact their work.
  • Actively participate in committees/programs as directed by DNS.
  • Participate in the development and implementation of new policies and procedures based on identified needs.
  • Actively participate in the QA/A process and attend quarterly QA/A meeting. Submit reports as requested by DNS.
  • Ensure that residents' changes in condition or care are communicated to MD and family or responsible party in a timely manner.
  • Make twice daily rounds on unit to ensure resident care and environmental standards are met.
  • Supervise resident dining room as needed.
  • Make quarterly rounds with the Maintenance Director to ensure life safety regulations are being met on the unit.
  • Work collaboratively with other members of the interdisciplinary team to provide holistic care.
  • Review clinical records for accuracy and completion.
  • Monitor, track, evaluate, and report infections for the unit.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
  • Must be RN or LPN and in good standing in the state of Massachusetts.
  • Must have at least two years of supervisory experience, have experience in long term, and sub-acute care.
  • Must have a working knowledge of State and Federal regulations as they pertain to long term and sub-acute care.
