Job summary

Montana Department of Natural Resources and Conservation is seeking a Program Specialist 2 for Unit Fire Management in the Kalispell area. The role plans and directs the fire management program across a large geographic area, coordinates resources, and provides guidance to cooperators.

Supervisory duties include training subordinate staff in fire prevention and readiness. The position requires a bachelor’s degree in forestry/fire management and five years of related experience, with ICS training

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in forestry, fire management/suppression or related field with 5 years of related fire program management experience.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with department counterparts and cooperators.
  • Ability to plan and manage several concurrent projects and to perform vigorous outdoor work.

Responsibilities

  • Plan, direct, and coordinate all aspects of the Unit's wildland fire management program.
  • Supervise and train staff in fire prevention, fire suppression, and readiness components.
  • Administer Master Hazard Agreement (MHRA), BMPs, and SMZ programs for major industrial land owners within the assigned zone.
