Job summary

Washington Department of Natural Resources seeks a Klickitat Assistant Fire Management Officer (AFMO) and Wildland Fire Management Specialist (WFMSpec) in the Southeast Region, Dallesport, WA. This full-time, permanent role supports wildland fire protection strategy and forest health initiatives for the 20-year plan.

You will supervise several crew members, coordinate training and suppression activities, and engage with interagency partners.

Qualifications

• NWCG Single Resource Boss and Incident Commander Type 5 certification required.
• Supervisory experience in fire programs or similar.
• Experience assisting higher-level fire program managers in developing and implementing operational plans.
• Experience interpreting agreements and contracts.
• Experience with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, PowerPoint).

Responsibilities

• Plan and implement training for seasonal crews and cooperators under the Unit FMO.
• Provide supervision for staff in fire suppression at unit level and coordinate with other agencies.
• Lead and supervise personnel in prescribed fire, forest health, and community resilience activities.
• Oversee silvicultural burning, prevention messaging, and public education to reduce unwanted ignitions.
• May act as Fire Management Officer in the Manager’s absence and manage unit supplies and equipment.
