Job summary

ICL in New York seeks a Unit Counselor to support residents by providing care, socialization, crisis intervention, and facility monitoring across shelter programs.

You will assist with orientation, communicate program processes to residents, provide transportation, meals, and document interactions; participate in crisis interventions and meetings; maintain punctuality and perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Some experience in a human services setting.
• Must obtain a food handler's certificate within 45 days (Hylan Shelter).
• Valid NYS Driver’s License preferred.

Responsibilities

• Participate in or conduct orientation for new residents.
• Communicate program processes and activities to residents.
• Provide social support and motivational interviewing interventions.
• Provide transportation for residents to appointments as needed.
• Assist with meal-related activities including warming, serving, and cleanup.
• Document neighborhood activities and resident interactions.
• Participate in crisis intervention as needed.
• Attend management, supervision, and required training meetings.
• Report serious incidents and complete required incident documentation.
• Conduct hourly rounds and ensure resident wellbeing.
• Arrive to work on time and as scheduled.
• Perform other job-related duties as assigned.
