Job summary

Institute for Community Living Inc. is seeking a Unit Counselor for New Life Shelter in New York, NY. You will support residents through care, socialization, crisis intervention, and monitoring across shelter programs.

Requirements include a high school diploma or equivalent and some experience in a human services setting. A food handlers certificate within 45 days and a NYS driver’s license are preferred, with authorization to work in the U.S. onsite work.

Qualifications

Responsibilities

• Participate in or conduct orientation for new residents.
• Communicate program processes and activities to residents.
• Provide social support and motivational interviewing interventions.
• Provide transportation for residents to appointments as needed.
• Assist with meal-related activities including warming, serving, and cleanup.
• Document neighborhood activities and resident interactions.
• Participate in crisis intervention as needed.
• Attend management, supervision, and required training meetings.
• Report serious incidents and complete required incident documentation.
• Conduct hourly rounds and ensure resident wellbeing.
• Arrive to work on time and as scheduled.
• Perform other job-related duties as assigned.

About the Role
