Job summary

UNM HOSPITALS is seeking a nurse educator to function as the unit educator, master teacher, and preceptor. You will facilitate evidence‑based research and translate nursing processes into care plans for a diverse patient population on the home unit.

You will also support students from the CON and assist in staffing while maintaining clinical skills. The role requires strong education leadership, clinical expertise, and collaboration with the multidisciplinary team to advance curricula, patient

• Essential: Bachelor's Degree
• Nonessential: Master's Degree
• Education specialization: Essential: BSN or MSN

Responsibilities

• Lead - Provide educational leadership to enhance specialized patient care within clinical protocols
• Initiate - Initiate unit-based strategies for developing clinical skills through the master clinician, master preceptor model
• Perform - Operate as unit educator and clinical instructor for students on home unit or assist staffing
• Plan - Develop patient plans of care incorporating evidenced-based research and national standards
• Consults - Consult with multidisciplinary team to ensure quality patient care
• Educate - Educate staff in use of new equipment and coordinate in-service training
• Assist - Assist patients and caregivers with education and health management
• Collaborate - Collaborate with Clinical Educator and Unit Director to implement curricula
• Monitor - Monitor trends and ensure quality standards are met
• Patient care - Deliver safe direct care within nursing protocols and support admissions/transfers/discharges
• Development - Participate in educational programs and stay updated with literature
• Patient safety 1-5 - Follow and improve patient safety policies and procedures
• Medication - Administer medications per the Seven Rights and document findings
• Patient care - Write treatment plans and coordinate nursing care
