Job summary

UNM Hospital is seeking a unit educator to serve as a master teacher and preceptor, advancing evidence-based nursing practices across neonatal to geriatric patients on the Intermediate Critical Care unit.

You will instruct students from the College of Nursing on the home unit, support staffing, develop patient plans of care, and collaborate with Clinical Educator, Clinical Nurse Specialist, and Unit Director to implement relevant curricula while ensuring safety and quality.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's Degree required in nursing.
• Master's Degree preferred in nursing or related field.
• BSN or MSN required as education specialization.
• RN license in NM or via reciprocal agreement.
• Instructor in Unit-Required Certifications within 90 days.
• 18 months of directly related nursing education experience.

Responsibilities

• Lead educational initiatives to advance specialized patient care per clinical protocols.
• Initiate unit-based strategies for developing clinical skills via master clinician/ Preceptor model.
• Serve as unit educator and clinical instructor for College of Nursing students on the home unit.
• Develop patient care plans incorporating evidence-based research and national standards.
• Consult with multidisciplinary team to ensure quality patient care.
• Educate staff on new equipment, supplies and in-services.
• Assist patients and caregivers with educational needs and problem solving.
• Collaborate with Clinical Educator, CNS, Specialty RN, or Unit Director on curricula.
• Monitor trends and implement educational strategies to achieve quality standards.
