Job summary

Samaritan Medical Center is seeking a Nursing Assistant to support mother–baby care in the OB/ACUTE department. The role involves assisting with daily living activities, charting, and collaboration with the patient care team under RN supervision.

The ideal candidate has completed a nursing assistant program or is a nursing student, with basic computer skills and the ability to work in a fast-paced environment. BLS certification is required or obtainable within 3 months of hire.

Responsibilities

• Provide compassionate patient care to mother‑baby couplets.
• Under the direction of a registered nurse, deliver direct patient care and collaborate with the patient care team, including family, to achieve optimal patient outcomes.
• Assist with activities of daily living and delegated patient care treatments and procedures.
• Assist with ambulation, turning, and promoting patient comfort.
• Prepare the surgical suite prior to cesarean births and support the SST and circulating RN.
• Maintain medical records, transcribe orders, answer telephones, and take and relay messages appropriately.
• In the ARU, make follow‑up appointments upon patient discharge, order durable medical equipment, perform data entry, supply ordering, and insurance follow‑up via phone or fax.

Qualifications

• Previous experience as a nursing student or graduate of a nursing assistant program.
• Previous maternity and/or medical surgical experience preferred.
• Computer experience preferred.
• Works effectively with others and possesses tact, discretion, and diplomacy.
• Ability to work under stress and complete duties amid numerous interruptions.
• Must be able to write legibly and document accurately.
• Must be able to communicate information to supervisors and co‑workers.
• May need to work beyond scheduled hours when necessary.
• Must be familiar with equipment used to move patients, take vital signs, and document.
• Knowledge of cleaning, sterilization, and disinfection of equipment and instrumentation used in the operating room.
• BLS certification required or obtained within 3 months of hire.
