Job description

Responsibilities
  • Coordinates, schedules and performs activities such as painting, varnishing, staining to decorate and protect interior and exterior surfaces, equipment and furniture.
  • Coordinates activities to accomplish work and assigns painters to complete tasks.
  • Provides direction, guidance and instruction to newer employees.
  • Assures that all installations are in conformance with specifications and regulations.
  • Keeps a sufficient inventory of paint and supplies on hand as well as other supplies such as scrapers, brushes and pans.
  • Receives assignments and work orders.
  • Reviews work orders for priority status and designated time schedules.
  • Estimates time, material and cost requirements.
  • Requisitions material and supplies for work to be done.
  • Prepares surfaces for painting by removing old paint, washing, scraping, sanding, patching holes, cracks and joints.
  • Moves and rearranges furniture, spreads canvas, and erects scaffolding.
  • Selects premixed paints or prepares paints by thinning and blending. Hangs wallpaper, measures wall space, cuts wallpaper to size and applies to wall.
  • Loads and unloads equipment, fills and empties paint containers, checks job prior to completion, inspects/examines job, contacts hospital personnel when repairs are required.
  • Operates electric sanding machine, parking lot striper; uses hand tools such as scraper, putty knife, tape measure, razor blades, paint brush and roller.
  • Maintains all required records and documents relative to corrective maintenance activities. Maintains appropriate mixing instructions, sketches and blueprints.
  • Completes all work orders in a timely, legible manner in order that complete and meaningful equipment histories are maintained.
  • Responds to emergency calls in a timely manner.
  • Applies cost-effective measurers in order to improve efficiency and support cost containment efforts while delivering a high quality service.
  • Provides Values-Added customer service consistent with hospital policy.
  • Keeps work area clean, orderly and safe. Assures proper care in use of tools, equipment and supplies.
  • Demonstrate safe work practices and attitudes, follows safety rules to prevent unsafe conditions and behaviors, and participates in organizational and department safety programs. Improve patient safety in the delivery of health care by understanding and applying the patient safety goal for SJPHS/Ascension of no preventable deaths or injuries.

Qualifications
  • Education: High School diploma/equivalent or related trade school is -required.
  • Experience: Three to five years -required.
  • Four (4) years as a professional painter preferably in a hospital -preferred

  • Ability to operate related power equipment Within scope of job, requires critical thinking skills, decisive judgment and the ability to work with minimal supervison. Must be able to work in a stressful environment.
