Qualifications

• High School diploma is required.
• Current City of Detroit High Pressure Boiler Operator License, or equivalent at time of hire/transfer date.
• Experience maintaining boilers, chillers, pumps, piping and related equipment.
• Ability to read blueprints, schematics, and manufacturers specifications.
• Knowledge of safety codes and practices.

Responsibilities

• Operates, maintains and repairs boiler room equipment including boilers, pumps, piping and controls.
• Takes readings daily and records boiler performance on reports.
• Prepares boilers for seasonal inspections.
• Repairs and overhauls steam equipment, valves and motors.
• Performs preventative maintenance as scheduled.
• Operates high pressure steam boilers (120 PSI) and related equipment.
• Performs water treatment, regenerates softeners, and analyzes water samples.
• Monitors and maintains generator and fire alarm systems.
• Performs maintenance on building systems including electrical and piping.
• Promotes safety and teamwork; adheres to Standards of Performance and Ethics.
• Performs other related duties as assigned.

The Boiler Operator is responsible for supporting the Mission and Vision of the facility by maintaining and operating all boilers, chillers, pumps, piping and associated equipment throughout the facility.

Henry Ford Providence Hospital-Rochester, MI.

Responsibilities

• Operates, maintains and repairs building automation system equipment, including absorbers, centrifugal chillers, cooling towers and air handling units.
• Takes readings on all equipment, powerhouse, all mechanical areas. Lists readings daily on the Boiler Report Sheet.
• Prepares boilers for seasonal inspection.
• Repairs and overhaul all steam equipment, valves and motors.
• Performs preventative maintenance duties according to schedule.
• Operates and maintains high pressure (120 PSI) steam boilers and related equipment.
• Regenerates water softener, refills brine tank with salt packs, pumps and valves, blows down boilers, performs boiler water treatment, and performs water analysis.
• Operates and maintains Generator and Fire Alarm Systems and records findings.
• Performs maintenance and repairs on building systems, including piping, electrical and repairs as necessary.
• Monitor elevators for proper operation, contact service when needed.
• Promotes a positive work environment as evidenced by quality service and positive staff attitudes.
• Demonstrates and actively promotes an understanding and commitment to the mission of the facility through performing behaviors consistent with the Standards of Performance and Code of Ethics.
• Follows Standard Precautions using personal protective equipment as required.
• Performs other related duties as assigned or requested.

Qualifications

Education:

• High School diploma -required

License/Certification

• Current City of Detroit High Pressure Boiler Operator License, or equivalent at time of hire/transfer date -required.

Knowledge, Skills And Abilities

• Demonstrated ability to read and interpret blueprints, schematics, and manufacturers specifications.
• Must be familiar with building maintenance techniques.
• Knowledge of safety codes and practices.
• Within scope of job, requires critical thinking skills, decisive judgment, and the ability to work with minimal supervision. Must be able to work in a fast-paced environment.
