The Uniforms Manager owns the complete uniform program for BHC, with primary responsibility at the assigned property and scalable support across the portfolio as needs arise. The scope includes issuance, fitting, inventory, tailoring, condition standards, and the systems that ensure every colleague reports to work in a uniform that fits properly and reflects the property’s presentation standard. This role manages the uniform room, supervises uniform attendants and tailoring staff, coordinates with Laundry and Valet services, standardizes processes and reporting across participating BHC properties, and serves as the central point of accountability for how BHC’s colleagues look when they are in front of a guest. At The Cooper, uniform presentation is not a back-of-house afterthought. It is one of the first things a guest registers about the property’s standard. A colleague in an ill-fitting, damaged, or inconsistent uniform communicates something about the organization whether anyone intends it to or not. The Uniforms Manager ensures that message is always the right one.
Manage the end-to-end uniform program for the property, including initial issuance, sizing, fitting, replacement, and colleague separation returns. Establish and enforce uniform presentation standards across all departments, ensuring consistency in fit, condition, cleanliness, and accessory compliance. Maintain a comprehensive uniform inventory system, tracking par levels by department, position, and size, and forecasting replacement and procurement needs. Coordinate with department heads and People and Culture on uniform requirements for new hires, role changes, seasonal staffing, and pre-opening builds. Manage uniform vendor relationships, including sourcing, pricing negotiations, ordering, quality review, and delivery coordination. Develop and maintain uniform SOPs, including issuance procedures, return policies, damage and loss protocols, and colleague accountability standards. Provide scalable uniform program support to other BHC properties as needs arise, standardizing processes and reporting across participating entities.
Oversee all tailoring and alteration work, including measuring, fitting, hemming, zipper replacement, and garment modifications to ensure professional fit for every colleague. Perform skilled tailoring and alterations directly when volume or complexity requires, maintaining craftsmanship standards appropriate to a luxury property. Manage the repair and maintenance of uniforms to extend garment lifecycle and reduce replacement costs, including mending, patching, and reinforcement of high-wear areas. Coordinate with the Laundry and Valet department on uniform cleaning, pressing, and care standards, ensuring garments are returned to colleagues in presentation-ready condition. Provide minor repairs for hotel soft goods, including drapes, decorative fabrics, and table linens as needed. Handle guest alteration and mending requests professionally and with appropriate turnaround times.
Maintain accurate, real-time inventory records of all uniform items by department, position, size, and condition. Monitor uniform usage, damage rates, and replacement frequency to identify trends and manage costs. Enforce a repair before replace standard, tracking alteration and repair utilization to extend garment lifecycle and reduce avoidable replacement costs. Track and investigate uniform loss, implementing controls and colleague accountability measures to reduce shrinkage and emergency purchasing. Identify savings through consolidated purchasing, vendor negotiation, and reduced emergency and avoidable replacement spend. Develop and manage the uniform budget, including procurement, replacement, tailoring supplies, and vendor costs. Maintain organized, labeled, and secure storage of all uniform inventory, sewing materials, and tailoring supplies. Conduct periodic inventory audits and reconcile physical counts against system records.
Recruit, hire, and onboard Uniform Attendants and tailoring staff in partnership with People and Culture, building a team with the technical skills and service orientation the property requires. Supervise, schedule, and direct uniform attendants and tailors, setting clear daily priorities and managing workload distribution across issuance, fittings, alterations, repairs, and inventory tasks. Conduct regular performance evaluations, provide ongoing coaching, and document corrective actions in accordance with BHC policies. Train and develop the team on tailoring techniques, garment care standards, fitting procedures, inventory management, and the service expectations of a luxury property. Coordinate with department heads across the property to ensure uniform compliance, address department-specific uniform needs, and resolve fit or condition issues for their teams. Maintain a clean, organized, and efficient uniform room and tailoring workspace that supports productive workflow and accurate inventory management.
Minimum of three to five years of experience managing a uniform or wardrobe program in a luxury hotel, resort, theater, cruise line, or comparable operation. Skilled in tailoring, garment alterations, and fitting, with the ability to perform and oversee alterations to a professional standard. Experience managing garment inventory systems, par levels, and procurement at scale. Strong knowledge of fabrics, garment construction, care techniques, and the durability requirements of commercial hospitality uniforms. Proficiency with industrial sewing machines, pressing equipment, and standard tailoring tools. Prior supervisory experience with demonstrated ability to manage a team and maintain production standards. Strong organizational and time-management skills with the ability to manage competing priorities across multiple departments. Excellent communication skills for coordinating with department heads, vendors, and colleagues at all levels. Budget management experience, including procurement planning and cost control. High school diploma or equivalent required. Formal training in tailoring, fashion design, or textile management preferred.
