Job Description

Job Goal: To facilitate student comprehension and application of concepts, skills and behaviors that contribute to the development of mature, able and responsible members of society, ensuring continuous improvement in state and national performance levels to prepare students for college and careers in a global society.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
  • Implement 21st Century Skills into the curriculum.
  • Work a full duty day in the assigned location(s).
  • Assess student abilities relative to desired educational goals and Head Start Performance Standards.
  • Plan and employ a variety of appropriate instruction/learning strategies and activities tailored to the physical facility and students’ needs.
  • Manage classroom behavior and participate in broader student behavior management.
  • Communicate instructional expectations, student progress, and lack of progress to students and parents, verbally or in writing.
  • Continuously assess student achievement and maintain appropriate assessment and evaluation documentation.
  • Collaborate with program personnel to plan effective instructional goals, objectives, methods, and curriculum.
  • Participate in professional growth and development activities as required.
  • Assist in documenting student progress through records and reports.
  • Maintain classroom and instructional environment that is attractive, healthful, safe and conducive to learning.
  • Participate in extracurricular activities as requested by the principal.
  • Participate in IEP meetings for IDEA students.
  • Demonstrate strong knowledge of content, curriculum, methods, materials and equipment of assigned specialty.
  • Understand student growth and development relevant to the assigned grade.
  • Understand early childhood program of studies related to mission, goals and organization.
  • Study current research and theory continuously.
  • Plan and implement lessons based on curriculum objectives and student needs.
  • Establish effective relationships with students, parents, peers, and serve as a family advocate within the district-wide Family Advocate System, including home visits.
  • Exhibit skilled oral and written communication and excellent human relations skills.
  • Possess the physical and emotional ability to perform required work and navigate classroom demands.
  • Take attendance and maintain attendance registers per board policy.
  • Know and follow Section 504 and IDEA amendments.
  • Display courtesy and professionalism at all times.
  • Maintain a neat and professional appearance.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Communication and Organization

Maintains communication with school personnel, parents/guardians to enhance cooperative action meeting students’ educational needs and utilizes existing technology effectively in performing duties.

Reasoning Ability

Ability to solve practical problems and handle a variety of situations with limited standardization, interpreting instructions in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

Language Skills

Ability to read, analyze, and interpret professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations; write reports, curriculum outlines, correspondence, and protocols; present information and respond to questions from administrators, staff, parents, students, and the general public.

Physical Demands and Work Environment

Requires regular sitting, walking, standing, talking, hearing; specific vision abilities include close, distance, and depth perception. Work environment is typically loud with standard acceptable levels. Employees are directly responsible for student safety, work output, and well‑being.

Other Skills and Abilities

Apply current research and theory to instructional programming; plan and implement lessons aligned with goals; establish partnership with students, peers, parents, and community; communicate clearly in written or oral form.

Evaluation

Performance will be evaluated according to Board of Education policy.
