Job summary

Calvert County Public Schools at Calvert Middle School in Prince Frederick, Maryland, invites applications for the Unified Bocce Assistant Coach. The selected candidate will support the head coach, foster positive values in student athletes, and help develop bocce skills and teamwork.

Starting date is immediate. The role includes coordinating with the athletic director and Special Olympics Maryland, organizing weekly practice plans, and training volunteers for event days and Unified Sports®

Qualifications

• Excellent communication skills and ability to work with students, staff, and parents.
• Proven leadership, management and interpersonal abilities.
• Good judgment and decision-making under pressure.
• Experience or willingness to collaborate with Special Olympics Maryland and coaches.

Responsibilities

• Oversee the administration of the middle school’s Unified Bocce team.
• Liaison regularly with the school’s athletic director and Special Olympics Maryland to ensure quality program standards are being met, and policies are being followed.
• Develop and implement practice plans in which bocce instruction is provided to all participants at least once a week.
• Organize and lead all practice sessions with the recruitment and support of assistant coaches.
• Impart the philosophy of a positive inclusive sports experience by following the principles of Unified Sports®.
• Plan and manage competition strategies for individuals and the team at Unified Bocce matches.
• Handle all paperwork requirements and forms required by the school system and Special Olympics Maryland.
• If serving as a host site for a Unified Bocce match, recruit and train volunteers to manage the event.
• Attend a mandatory Unified Sports® Bocce Coaches’ Training.
